Oblakov Vrh mountain pass
At Oblakov Vrh, you are standing in the middle of the fault zone of the famous Idrija Fault, one of the strongest and most important faults in the Southern Alps, visible even on satellite images.
Here, you can touch the ground and imagine the powerful forces from the Earth’s interior that cause huge masses of rock to break and move.
You can also take a look along this “geological fault”, which caused the biggest earthquake ever recorded in Slovenia in 1511. It offers unforgettable views across the Hotenje Valley and the Kanomlja Valley.
If you decide to climb the Vrhovec hill, a high grassy peak located south of the Šebrelje Plateau, you won’t regret it. From the top, where there is a panoramic sign, you can enjoy a beautiful view across the Šebrelje Plateau, the Trnovo Forest, the Idrija, Cerkno and Škofja Loka hills and, with good visibility, all the way to the Julian Alps.

Trail description
Reaching the starting point: From Logatec, drive towards Tolmin or vice versa. When you get to Spodnja Idrija, turn left (from Tolmin, turn right) towards the village of Kanomlja. After 14 km of driving along the valley of the Kanomljica River, you will reach the Oblakov Vrh mountain pass, where the road forks to the right for Idrijske Krnice, and further on in the direction of Trebuša, where you can park a little further on.
Trail description: From Oblakov vrh continue right towards Idrijske Krnice. Follow the gravel road for 2.4 km up to the signpost and post box above the hairpin turns, where you turn left in the direction of Pisance. Continue past the Pisance farm and keep right. The path rounds slightly and after a few minutes’ walk leads you to a fork by the chapel. Here, at an older house (Šebrelje 83), turn sharp right onto a path leading into the woods, through which you continue until you reach a meadow with a wooden hut, past which you follow a slightly less-trodden track. This leads to a track where you turn right. The path leading uphill leads you past the hut and the amateur radio operators’ antennas to a meadow where you will see a wormwood tree, a bench and a “schnapps-dispenser” – Lokvarski vrh.
Continue on the circular route past the sundial to the farm Pri Lokvarju below. Follow the track down to the main road, where you turn right. Follow the garvel road to the well-known fork in the direction of Pisance and down the hairpin turn path to Oblakov Vrh.
